I have no excuses! None at all. But I’m back to posting now, and you are going to hear a lot from me! On my travel, on cakes and of course our wonderful Study Group on the Silk route, that just came to a close.
For the finale, I wanted to surprise my friends with a whimsical cake that showcased the Silk Route. What was it to be? Of course it had to have the desert and camels. Maybe tents and an oasis? Googling images of the cities along the Silk Route, I decided to pick the Blue dome of Samarkand. And then inspiration struck!
What about a princess, floating on a magic carpet over the desert? With the city of Samarkand (represented by the one lone dome and one minaret) far below her. And one solitary camel, instead of a whole caravan of them.
Hastily assembling some chocolate cupcakes at 6 am, into a rough cloud shape, I covered them with white fondant- only to realize to my dismay that my painstakingly modeled princess was gigantic for the cloud. She would completely dwarf the magic carpet and look gargantuan compared to Samarkand and the camel.
If you have travelled the Silk Route, do share what you thought was the most magical part of the journey!
